Menders, Torrey & Spencer has participated in several projects at this national landmark.
In 2004, our firm and the Old North Church Foundation secured a Save America’s Treasures grant and additional funding from numerous other sources to restore the 250 year-old windows of the Old North Church. Each window was surveyed and its condition mapped onto a custom drawing. The windows were then carefully removed, the wood and glass conserved, the sash balance systems restored, and the elements weatherized.
In order to provide universal access to the most-visited church in Boston, Menders, Torrey & Spencer redesigned the main entrance doors, vestibule and brick forecourt. This project received an award from the Boston Society of Architects and the Massachusetts Architectural Access Board for “access solutions that are innovative, creative, aesthetically pleasing and usable by everyone.”
Menders, Torrey & Spencer has also been involved in master plan studies for Old North Church and restoration of the facades of adjoining buildings used for church offices and choir rooms.
